# VPN Hotspot Shield vs VPN Clean

The clearest difference is update cadence: VPN Hotspot Shield at weekly against VPN Clean's every 3 weeks. VPN Hotspot Shield also leads on ratings volume (364K vs 37K) and chart position (#34 vs unranked). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN Hotspot Shield sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month and VPN Clean sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for VPN Hotspot Shield against 4.6 for VPN Clean. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VPN Hotspot Shield has 364K ratings behind it against 37K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 76% of VPN Hotspot Shield's written reviews are positive against 70% of VPN Clean's.

VPN Hotspot Shield ships an update weekly, VPN Clean every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 27, 2026.
