# VPN Hotspot Shield vs VPN Master

The clearest difference is ads: VPN Hotspot Shield at none against VPN Master's shown. VPN Hotspot Shield also leads on ratings volume (363K vs 1.5K) and chart position (#53 vs unranked). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN Hotspot Shield sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and VPN Master sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

VPN Hotspot Shield holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VPN Hotspot Shield has 363K ratings behind it against 1.5K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 76% of VPN Hotspot Shield's written reviews are positive against 83% of VPN Master's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

VPN Hotspot Shield ships an update every 10 days, VPN Master every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and August 31, 2026 respectively.
