# VPN Hotspot Shield vs Secure VPN

The clearest difference is ads: VPN Hotspot Shield at none against Secure VPN's shown. VPN Hotspot Shield also leads on ratings volume (364K vs 409) and rating (4.6 vs 4.4). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN Hotspot Shield sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Secure VPN sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

VPN Hotspot Shield holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VPN Hotspot Shield has 364K ratings behind it against 409, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 76% of VPN Hotspot Shield's written reviews are positive against 82% of Secure VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
