# Repeat Timer vs School Chimes

The clearest difference is monetization model: School Chimes at free with in-app purchases against Repeat Timer's subscription. School Chimes also leads on review sentiment (58% vs 45%) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). Repeat Timer's advantage is rating (4.1 vs 3.7) and ratings volume (547 vs 56). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Repeat Timer sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and School Chimes sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Repeat Timer holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Repeat Timer has 547 ratings behind it against 56, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 45% of Repeat Timer's written reviews are positive against 58% of School Chimes's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
