# MacFormat vs iSoft

MacFormat and iSoft both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 89% of iSoft's written reviews are positive against 48% of MacFormat's. iSoft also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). MacFormat's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, ratings volume and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MacFormat sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and iSoft sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for MacFormat against 4.5 for iSoft. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 87 and 220 respectively. Written reviews are what separate them: 48% of MacFormat's written reviews are positive against 89% of iSoft's.

MacFormat ships an update every 3 months, iSoft monthly. Both last shipped on October 26, 2026.
