# Flash Fiction Prompter vs Writing Challenge

The clearest difference is price: Flash Fiction Prompter at Free against Writing Challenge's $2.99. Flash Fiction Prompter also leads on review sentiment (73% vs 50%) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.0). Writing Challenge's advantage is rating (4.4 vs 3.8) and update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 12 months). On ads, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Flash Fiction Prompter is free to download; Writing Challenge costs $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Writing Challenge holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Writing Challenge has 60 ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of Flash Fiction Prompter's written reviews are positive against 50% of Writing Challenge's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Flash Fiction Prompter ships an update every 12 months, Writing Challenge every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
