# Formula MAX vs Matrix for Beginners

The clearest difference is price: Matrix for Beginners at Free against Formula MAX's $0.99. Matrix for Beginners also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 80%) and update cadence (every 4 months vs every 11 months). Formula MAX's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.0) and in-app purchases (none vs 1). On device support there is nothing between them.

Matrix for Beginners is free to download; Formula MAX costs $0.99 up front. Matrix for Beginners sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Formula MAX asks for nothing beyond the download.

Formula MAX holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Formula MAX has 52 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Formula MAX's written reviews are positive against 100% of Matrix for Beginners's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
