# Countdown vs Countdown Timer

The clearest difference is monetization model: Countdown at free with in-app purchases against Countdown Timer's subscription. Countdown Timer's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (76% vs 52%). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Countdown sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per year and Countdown Timer sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for Countdown against 4.4 for Countdown Timer. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Countdown Timer has 371 ratings behind it against 51, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 52% of Countdown's written reviews are positive against 76% of Countdown Timer's.

Countdown ships an update every 2 weeks, Countdown Timer every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and September 8, 2026 respectively.
