# Google News vs MSN

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Google News at none against MSN's 1. Google News also leads on chart position (#21 vs #94). MSN's advantage is review sentiment (38% vs 19%) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs monthly). On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MSN sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $20.00 per month. Google News asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Google News against 4.6 for MSN. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 226K and 124K respectively. Written reviews are what separate them: 19% of Google News's written reviews are positive against 38% of MSN's.

Google News ships an update monthly, MSN every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
