# Spelling Notebook vs Spell Bee

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Spelling Notebook at 2.7K against Spell Bee's 5. Spelling Notebook also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.5). Spell Bee's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 86%). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spelling Notebook sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Spell Bee sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Spelling Notebook holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spelling Notebook has 2.7K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Spelling Notebook's written reviews are positive against 100% of Spell Bee's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Spelling Notebook ships an update every 3 months, Spell Bee every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
