# FreebieSMS vs SMS Instant

The clearest difference is rating: SMS Instant at 4.1 against FreebieSMS's 2.0. SMS Instant also leads on ratings volume (62 vs 2). FreebieSMS's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FreebieSMS sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and SMS Instant sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SMS Instant holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SMS Instant has 62 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 11% and 12% positive.

FreebieSMS ships an update every 4 months, SMS Instant every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
