# Boat Lights vs GPS Speedometer

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Boat Lights at 89% against GPS Speedometer's 24%. Boat Lights also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 7). GPS Speedometer's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (5.5K vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GPS Speedometer sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Boat Lights asks for nothing beyond the download.

GPS Speedometer holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GPS Speedometer has 5.5K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 89% of Boat Lights's written reviews are positive against 24% of GPS Speedometer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
