# Emoticon Dictionary vs EMMO

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Emoticon Dictionary at none against EMMO's 11. Emoticon Dictionary also leads on iOS requirement (14.0 vs 16). EMMO's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (29K vs 2.1K). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. EMMO sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Emoticon Dictionary asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Emoticon Dictionary against 4.8 for EMMO. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: EMMO has 29K ratings behind it against 2.1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 82% of Emoticon Dictionary's written reviews are positive against 78% of EMMO's.

Emoticon Dictionary ships an update every 3 months, EMMO every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
