# Math. vs Symbolab

The clearest difference is monetization model: Symbolab at free with in-app purchases against Math.'s subscription. Symbolab also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (26K vs 1.6K). Math.'s advantage is review sentiment (74% vs 60%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Math. sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Symbolab sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $2.49 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Math. against 4.6 for Symbolab. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Symbolab has 26K ratings behind it against 1.6K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 74% of Math.'s written reviews are positive against 60% of Symbolab's.

Math. ships an update every 3 months, Symbolab monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
