# Ref Tools vs AI Tools

The clearest difference is rating: Ref Tools at 3.9 against AI Tools's 3.0. Ref Tools also leads on ratings volume (52 vs 2). AI Tools's advantage is review sentiment (67% vs 58%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Ref Tools holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ref Tools has 52 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 58% of Ref Tools's written reviews are positive against 67% of AI Tools's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Ref Tools ships an update every 5 weeks, AI Tools every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
