RealEngineSim is a simulation game that you can enjoy the real engine sound of cars and motorcycles made by the innovative engine sound synthesis technology. RealEngineSim uses technology completed through years of research by engine sound professionals in Hamamatsu, a region known as a home to the world’s automobile and motorcycle manufacturers. Using this technology, we have created the world’s only iPhone app able to regenerate real engine sounds. ○This app is a simulation game in which you can enjoy the speed control and the innovative engine sound of manual mission vehicles. ○The use of a speaker gives you even more realistic and muscular sound. However, we would ask you to enjoy this app with an earphone or a headset when using it in public places. (* Please be extra careful of the volume in order not to either hurt your hearing or trouble people around you.) ◆ Available vehicles ◆ Four types: passenger cars, sports cars, sports motorcycles, and racing cars. You can also enjoy controlling the acceleration, braking, clutch, and shifting of manual transmission vehicles (Auto-Clutch available). *There are eight additional engine sounds available for in-app purchase. ◆ Pursuing realistic engine sound ◆ Precise vehicle models and innovative engine sound synthesizers were used to achieve real engine behavior and powerful engine sound that cannot be experienced through other racing games. Features life-like tire slippage caused by sudden acceleration and braking. ◆ The Driving Mode ◆ There are two modes: free driving and speed tracing Speed tracing is a game in which the object is to drive at a specific target speed. Expert mode features the racing speed data from racing cards driving on famous courses from around the world, giving you the chance to experience the excitement of racing on real courses. * The game modes, such as the chicken race, are available for in-app purchase. * The new technology of engine sound synthesis used in this app was developed by an engineer, who started his own business after a long time research on the sound at Yamaha Motor Co.,Ltd. (motorcycle manufacturer). The patent application is now in preparation. ◇For information and inquiries on our engine sound The engine sound synthesis technology used for this app is available for use in a variety of medias such as games, movies, and so on. Exhaust Note is not an app that plays back engine recordings. For piston engines, it synthesizes the sound from scratch, every moment, from the firing order created by cylinder layout and crankpin phasing. Why a crossplane V8 rumbles, why a flatplane screams, why a V12 idle throbs — it all comes from the physics of firing intervals. This app computes that physics in real time. ■ Real-time synthesized exhaust - Zero recorded samples. Crank-angle integration → per-cylinder firing → exhaust-pipe propagation, computed every sample - Distinct primary pipe, mid-pipe and muffler model for every engine - Muffler continuously adjustable from straight pipe to quiet ■ Engine collection - 22 engine and motor presets: inline-3 through V12, two-, three- and four-rotor engines, a 300 kW electric motor and six motorcycle engines - 12 transmission presets: manual, sequential, dual-clutch, automatic, EV single-speed reduction and motorcycle 6-speed sequential, paired with compatible powertrains - Pick a motorcycle engine and the view becomes a motorcycle that leans into corners, with quickshifter, intake and dry-clutch sounds - Crossplane vs flatplane V8 — same eight cylinders, completely different sound - Firing order and rumble index shown as specs ■ Pop and bang + flames - Afterburn pops on throttle lift and downshifts - Flames at the 3D exhaust tips, same instant and same bank as the sound ■ Tunnel mode - Reverb that wraps the sound in wall reflections, like driving into a tunnel ■ A living 3D machine - Crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods rotate in phase with the sound - Gearbox cutaway: constantly meshed gear pairs and real synchro-sleeve movement - Observe the mechanism at 1/10 slow motion, or switch to real time for phase match ■ The feel of driving - Torque-converter launch, rev matching, manual H-pattern shifter - Haptics on rev limiter, wheelspin, shifts and ABS - Analog pedals: press position controls pedal travel ■ Electric drive - Motor, inverter, underfloor battery and fixed reduction in 3D - Original sound synthesized from motor speed, load and regeneration, without recorded samples - Simplified battery charge, energy use and regenerative braking ■ Garage, dyno and mechanism explorer - Name and save engine, transmission, boost, exhaust, body, color and assist combinations; restore the last configuration - Compare torque/power curves and estimated acceleration with shared vehicle mass and road conditions; optional matching gear ratios for combustion setups - Move through the operating cycle and choose a gear to inspect the mechanism ■ Circuit driving - Drive GT and four-door coupe models on the test circuit or an approximate 20.7 km Nürburgring Nordschleife based on public data, with forests and elevation changes - Adjustable graphics quality and saved accelerator/brake modes, pedal response, steering and assists - Local best laps are separated by circuit, engine and boost class; the three-rotor, four-rotor, electric and motorcycle powertrains currently keep records on the device only Power, acceleration and EV battery figures are estimates from simplified simulation, not production-vehicle measurements. Built by a gearhead, for gearheads.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Exhaust Note at 4.7 against RealEngineSim's 3.8. Exhaust Note also leads on review sentiment (93% vs 72%) and update cadence (every 2 days vs weekly). RealEngineSim's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (83 vs 12). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. RealEngineSim sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Exhaust Note sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Exhaust Note holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: RealEngineSim has 83 ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 72% of RealEngineSim's written reviews are positive against 93% of Exhaust Note's.
RealEngineSim ships an update weekly, Exhaust Note every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
