# HD Player vs MX Player

The clearest difference is ratings volume: MX Player at 4.3K against HD Player's 195. MX Player also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). HD Player's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 34%). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. HD Player sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and MX Player sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for HD Player against 4.5 for MX Player. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MX Player has 4.3K ratings behind it against 195, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 50% of HD Player's written reviews are positive against 34% of MX Player's.

HD Player ships an update every 2 months, MX Player monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
