# O vs DirectScan

The clearest difference is rating: DirectScan at 5.0 against O's 3.8. DirectScan also leads on update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 3 months) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 26.0). O's advantage is ratings volume (5 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

DirectScan holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: O has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

O ships an update every 3 months, DirectScan every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 1, 2026 respectively.
