# Luminos Map vs Compass

The clearest difference is ads: Compass at none against Luminos Map's shown. Compass also leads on ratings volume (2.3K vs 297) and iOS requirement (12 vs 15.6). Luminos Map's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 7 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Luminos Map sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Compass sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Luminos Map against 4.7 for Compass. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Compass has 2.3K ratings behind it against 297, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 68% and 67% positive.

Luminos Map ships an update every 3 weeks, Compass every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
