# The Scotsman Newspaper vs Edinburgh Live

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Edinburgh Live at none against The Scotsman Newspaper's 4. Edinburgh Live also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 4 months) and rating (4.9 vs 4.7). The Scotsman Newspaper's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (40% vs 24%). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Scotsman Newspaper sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Edinburgh Live asks for nothing beyond the download.

Edinburgh Live holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The Scotsman Newspaper has 185 ratings behind it against 18, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 40% of The Scotsman Newspaper's written reviews are positive against 24% of Edinburgh Live's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

The Scotsman Newspaper ships an update every 4 months, Edinburgh Live monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
