# GPS Tour vs GPS Data Smart

The clearest difference is rating: GPS Data Smart at 4.7 against GPS Tour's 3.6. GPS Data Smart also leads on ratings volume (406 vs 27). GPS Tour's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 4 months) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GPS Tour sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and GPS Data Smart sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

GPS Data Smart holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GPS Data Smart has 406 ratings behind it against 27, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 81% of GPS Tour's written reviews are positive against 74% of GPS Data Smart's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

GPS Tour ships an update every 2 months, GPS Data Smart every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
