# CloseTheBox vs Ship Captain Crew

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Ship Captain Crew at 100% against CloseTheBox's 56%. Ship Captain Crew also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.6). CloseTheBox's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.7 vs 4.3). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

CloseTheBox holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CloseTheBox has 3.8K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of CloseTheBox's written reviews are positive against 100% of Ship Captain Crew's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CloseTheBox ships an update every 8 months, Ship Captain Crew every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
