# Welding Journal vs Police Scanner +

The clearest difference is rating: Welding Journal at 5.0 against Police Scanner +'s 4.5. Welding Journal also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ads (none vs shown). Police Scanner +'s advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (53% vs 23%). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Police Scanner + sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Welding Journal asks for nothing beyond the download.

Welding Journal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Police Scanner + has 102K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 23% of Welding Journal's written reviews are positive against 53% of Police Scanner +'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Welding Journal ships an update every 2 months, Police Scanner + every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
