# Shogi Wars vs Chess Royale

The clearest difference is ads: Shogi Wars at none against Chess Royale's shown. Shogi Wars also leads on rating (4.7 vs 4.5). Chess Royale's advantage is ratings volume (20K vs 136) and review sentiment (60% vs 47%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shogi Wars sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $5.49 per month and Chess Royale sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shogi Wars holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Royale has 20K ratings behind it against 136, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of Shogi Wars's written reviews are positive against 60% of Chess Royale's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Shogi Wars ships an update every 4 weeks, Chess Royale every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
