# Crazy Bishop vs Classic chess

Crazy Bishop and Classic chess both sit at 4.2 stars, but that hides the real split: 86% of Crazy Bishop's written reviews are positive against 65% of Classic chess's. Crazy Bishop also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.0). Classic chess's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (74 vs 14). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Classic chess holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Classic chess has 74 ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Crazy Bishop's written reviews are positive against 65% of Classic chess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Crazy Bishop ships an update every 6 months, Classic chess every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
