# Crazy Bishop vs BlueChess

The clearest difference is rating: BlueChess at 5.0 against Crazy Bishop's 4.2. BlueChess also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Crazy Bishop's advantage is review sentiment (86% vs 50%) and ratings volume (14 vs 2). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

BlueChess holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Crazy Bishop has 14 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Crazy Bishop's written reviews are positive against 50% of BlueChess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Crazy Bishop ships an update every 6 months, BlueChess every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on September 28, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
