# Egress Secure Mail vs Shurgard

The clearest difference is rating: Egress Secure Mail at 4.3 against Shurgard's 1.9. Egress Secure Mail also leads on ratings volume (290 vs 7) and iOS requirement (12.2 vs 14.0). Shurgard's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (19% vs 8%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Egress Secure Mail holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 1.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Egress Secure Mail has 290 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 8% of Egress Secure Mail's written reviews are positive against 19% of Shurgard's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Egress Secure Mail ships an update monthly, Shurgard every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
