# Letter vs Write a letter

The clearest difference is rating: Letter at 4.6 against Write a letter's 3.9. Letter also leads on review sentiment (49% vs 27%) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Letter sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and Write a letter sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Letter has 881 ratings behind it against 28, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 49% of Letter's written reviews are positive against 27% of Write a letter's.

Letter ships an update every 3 weeks, Write a letter every 3 months. Both last shipped on October 20, 2026.
