# WinZip vs Simple Zip

The clearest difference is rating: Simple Zip at 5.0 against WinZip's 4.3. Simple Zip also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and update cadence (every 6 days vs every 3 months). WinZip's advantage is ratings volume (2.4K vs 1) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 16.4). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WinZip sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per year. Simple Zip asks for nothing beyond the download.

Simple Zip holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: WinZip has 2.4K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

WinZip ships an update every 3 months, Simple Zip every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
