# abcNotes vs Word Counter & Notes

The clearest difference is monetization model: abcNotes at freemium against Word Counter & Notes's subscription. abcNotes also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 4 months) and review sentiment (77% vs 56%). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. abcNotes sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Word Counter & Notes sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for abcNotes against 4.7 for Word Counter & Notes. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: abcNotes has 2.9K ratings behind it against 336, so its average is the more settled of the two.
