# Foxit PDF Editor vs PDF Unlock

The clearest difference is monetization model: Foxit PDF Editor at freemium against PDF Unlock's subscription. Foxit PDF Editor also leads on ratings volume (4.8K vs 2). PDF Unlock's advantage is review sentiment (90% vs 68%) and update cadence (every 8 days vs monthly). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Foxit PDF Editor sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and PDF Unlock sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Foxit PDF Editor against 4.5 for PDF Unlock. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Foxit PDF Editor has 4.8K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 68% of Foxit PDF Editor's written reviews are positive against 90% of PDF Unlock's.

Foxit PDF Editor ships an update monthly, PDF Unlock every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
