# Journal vs Record

The clearest difference is ads: Record at none against Journal's shown. Record also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). Journal's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 20 months). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Journal ships an update monthly, Record every 20 months. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
