# Fish vs Serial Reader

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Fish at none against Serial Reader's 5. Fish also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.6). Serial Reader's advantage is ratings volume (4.1K vs 38). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Serial Reader sells 5 one-off in-app purchases. Fish asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Fish against 4.8 for Serial Reader. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Serial Reader has 4.1K ratings behind it against 38, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 99% of Fish's written reviews are positive against 95% of Serial Reader's.

Fish ships an update every 4 months, Serial Reader every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
