# DMV Genie vs CDL Prep

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: CDL Prep at none against DMV Genie's 27. CDL Prep also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). DMV Genie's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and chart position there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. DMV Genie sells 27 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days. CDL Prep asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for DMV Genie against 4.7 for CDL Prep. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: DMV Genie has 184K ratings behind it against 6.7K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 84% of DMV Genie's written reviews are positive against 81% of CDL Prep's.

DMV Genie ships an update fortnightly, CDL Prep every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
