# Spell, Write and Read vs ABC

The clearest difference is rating: ABC at 4.1 against Spell, Write and Read's 2.3. ABC also leads on ratings volume (3.1K vs 3) and update cadence (every 4 months vs every 13 months). Spell, Write and Read's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spell, Write and Read sells 9 one-off in-app purchases and ABC sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ABC holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 2.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ABC has 3.1K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Spell, Write and Read's written reviews are positive against 44% of ABC's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Spell, Write and Read ships an update every 13 months, ABC every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 7, 2026 respectively.
