# Backgammon vs Backgammon AI

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Backgammon at none against Backgammon AI's 1. Backgammon also leads on rating (4.5 vs 4.1) and ratings volume (588 vs 15). Backgammon AI's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 5 days vs every 2 months). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backgammon AI sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Backgammon asks for nothing beyond the download.

Backgammon holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backgammon has 588 ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 32% of Backgammon's written reviews are positive against 50% of Backgammon AI's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Backgammon ships an update every 2 months, Backgammon AI every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
