# KaleidoPaint vs Smart Word Cloud

The clearest difference is rating: KaleidoPaint at 4.6 against Smart Word Cloud's 3.5. KaleidoPaint also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (77 vs 6). Smart Word Cloud's advantage is monetization model (ad-supported vs paid) and review sentiment (100% vs 81%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

KaleidoPaint holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: KaleidoPaint has 77 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 81% of KaleidoPaint's written reviews are positive against 100% of Smart Word Cloud's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

KaleidoPaint ships an update every 5 months, Smart Word Cloud every 9 months. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
