# Garmin Audio vs AMI Play

The clearest difference is rating: AMI Play at 4.5 against Garmin Audio's 4.0. AMI Play also leads on ratings volume (18K vs 459) and chart position (#21 vs unranked). Garmin Audio's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (69% vs 58%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

AMI Play holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: AMI Play has 18K ratings behind it against 459, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 69% of Garmin Audio's written reviews are positive against 58% of AMI Play's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Garmin Audio ships an update every 3 months, AMI Play every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
