# Backstory vs Postplane

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Postplane at none against Backstory's 10. Postplane also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs every 3 months) and rating (4.6 vs 4.4). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backstory sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $24.99 per year. Postplane asks for nothing beyond the download.

Postplane holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 7 and 11 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 87% of Backstory's written reviews are positive against 80% of Postplane's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Backstory ships an update every 3 months, Postplane every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
