Weather Alarm tracks rain, thunderstorms, hail, snow and wind around you and tells you when they are heading your way, with an estimated arrival time. While other weather apps only show that it is raining somewhere, Weather Alarm checks on live radar whether the precipitation is really moving toward you. It covers Slovenia, Italy, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with official national radar data. HOW IT WORKS Our servers continuously process live radar data and calculate the direction, speed and strength of every precipitation cell around you. The key difference: the app does not ring just because there is a storm somewhere nearby. It tells you when a cell is moving toward you and how many minutes until it arrives. Hiking, cycling or gardening: you will know before the weather changes. WHAT YOU SEE AT A GLANCE • What precipitation is falling at your location right now • How many cells are around you and how strong they are • The distance to the nearest cell • An estimate of when rain or hail will reach you Open the animated radar map with the predicted path of each cell and see where the bad weather is going. There is also a 10-day forecast for your location and the official warnings of the national weather service for your region. RADAR WIDGET The home screen widget shows the radar around you with arrows for where precipitation will move in the next 50 minutes, your location and the time of the last update. On iPhone you also see it in CarPlay. CARDS WHEN THE WEATHER TURNS The home screen shows the turning points: the start and end of a heatwave, a sudden cooling or warming, the first frost and the end of a long dry spell, with the expected millimetres of rain day by day. After an eventful day, a daily summary waits for you in the evening. WIND BY ALTITUDE Wind at the ground and at 1500 and 3000 metres, where the path of a storm is decided. Tap the map to open the vertical profile with the wind at every altitude and the convective energy of the atmosphere (CAPE). COMMUNITY Report hail, lightning, heavy rain, wind or flooding with one tap and follow reports from others live on the map. Share photos of the sky and storms near you and give a heart to the ones you like. Every month the photo with the most hearts becomes the photo of the month. Test your instinct: guess whether a storm or hail will reach a certain city and climb the leaderboard. EARTHQUAKES AND HOTSPOTS The map shows earthquakes reported by public seismological services (after the event; the app does not predict earthquakes) and thermal hotspots from NASA satellites. Because our servers do the heavy lifting, the app stays light on your battery. IMPORTANT Weather Alarm is an unofficial, informational app and is not affiliated with ARSO or any other official service. Notifications are calculated automatically from radar and satellite measurements and may be inaccurate or delayed. Do not rely on it for safety-critical decisions. In dangerous weather always follow official warnings and the instructions of the competent authorities. Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: WeatherAlarm at 100% against Storm Shield's 38%. WeatherAlarm also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 7) and ads (none vs shown). Storm Shield's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.4) and ratings volume (114K vs 59). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Storm Shield sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. WeatherAlarm asks for nothing beyond the download.
Storm Shield holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Storm Shield has 114K ratings behind it against 59, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 38% of Storm Shield's written reviews are positive against 100% of WeatherAlarm's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Storm Shield ships an update weekly, WeatherAlarm every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
