# Open Charge Map vs Zapmap

The clearest difference is rating: Open Charge Map at 5.0 against Zapmap's 4.5. Open Charge Map also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 10) and ads (none vs shown). Zapmap's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (96 vs 1). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Zapmap sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Open Charge Map asks for nothing beyond the download.

Open Charge Map holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Zapmap has 96 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 18% of Open Charge Map's written reviews are positive against 30% of Zapmap's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Open Charge Map ships an update every 3 months, Zapmap fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 29, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
