# iTransfer vs File Manager & Documents

The clearest difference is monetization model: iTransfer at free with in-app purchases against File Manager & Documents's subscription. iTransfer also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). File Manager & Documents's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.4 vs 4.1). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. iTransfer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and File Manager & Documents sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

File Manager & Documents holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: File Manager & Documents has 4.8K ratings behind it against 215, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 52% and 53% positive.

iTransfer ships an update every 4 months, File Manager & Documents every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
