# Happy Scale vs Progress Pics

The clearest difference is monetization model: Progress Pics at free with in-app purchases against Happy Scale's subscription. Happy Scale's advantage is ratings volume (58K vs 1) and update cadence (every 11 days vs every 5 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Happy Scale sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Progress Pics sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Happy Scale against 5.0 for Progress Pics. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Happy Scale has 58K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Happy Scale ships an update every 11 days, Progress Pics every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
