# listerCompass vs iNaturalist

The clearest difference is price: iNaturalist at Free against listerCompass's $5.99. iNaturalist also leads on rating (4.1 vs 1.0) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 months). On review sentiment, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

iNaturalist is free to download; listerCompass costs $5.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

iNaturalist holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: iNaturalist has 719 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of listerCompass's written reviews are positive against 49% of iNaturalist's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

listerCompass ships an update every 5 months, iNaturalist fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
