# Direction vs Back

The clearest difference is rating: Direction at 4.5 against Back's 3.6. Direction also leads on update cadence (every 9 days vs every 20 months). Back's advantage is review sentiment (41% vs 25%) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 17.6). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Direction sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Back sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Direction holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 6 and 17 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 25% of Direction's written reviews are positive against 41% of Back's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Direction ships an update every 9 days, Back every 20 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
