# FineReader vs Scanner App

The clearest difference is ratings volume: FineReader at 19K against Scanner App's 1.4K. On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FineReader sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Scanner App sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for FineReader against 4.7 for Scanner App. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FineReader has 19K ratings behind it against 1.4K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 71% and 70% positive.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly monthly. Both last shipped on October 18, 2026.
