# FineReader vs Scanument

The clearest difference is ratings volume: FineReader at 19K against Scanument's 9. Scanument's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and review sentiment (89% vs 71%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FineReader sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Scanument sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Scanument holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FineReader has 19K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 71% of FineReader's written reviews are positive against 89% of Scanument's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly monthly. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and September 27, 2026 respectively.
