# FTP Sprite vs File Explorer

The clearest difference is rating: File Explorer at 3.9 against FTP Sprite's 3.1. File Explorer also leads on ratings volume (79 vs 14) and review sentiment (65% vs 56%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FTP Sprite sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and File Explorer sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

File Explorer holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: File Explorer has 79 ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 56% of FTP Sprite's written reviews are positive against 65% of File Explorer's.

FTP Sprite ships an update every 4 months, File Explorer every 3 months. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
