# Altimeter & Barometer vs ElevationCheck

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Altimeter & Barometer at none against ElevationCheck's 1. Altimeter & Barometer also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (152 vs 6). ElevationCheck's advantage is update cadence (every 2 days vs every 13 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ElevationCheck sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $3.99 per month. Altimeter & Barometer asks for nothing beyond the download.

Altimeter & Barometer holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Altimeter & Barometer has 152 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 55% of Altimeter & Barometer's written reviews are positive against 63% of ElevationCheck's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Altimeter & Barometer ships an update every 13 months, ElevationCheck every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
