# YouTube vs VR Video Viewer

The clearest difference is rating: YouTube at 4.7 against VR Video Viewer's 4.1. YouTube also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (50M vs 13). VR Video Viewer's advantage is iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. YouTube sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $11.99 per month and VR Video Viewer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

YouTube holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: YouTube has 50M ratings behind it against 13, so its average is the more settled of the two.

YouTube ships an update weekly, VR Video Viewer every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
